BASIC KNOTS FOR NOVICE ANGLERS

KOAW’S GUIDE TO FISHING - A KNFS COMMUNITY RESOURCE

There is no shortage of fishing knots. For the new angler, focus on learning two knots: The Palomar Knot & the Arbor Knot

PALOMAR KNOT

The Palomar Knot is a classic terminal knot and very easy to tie. (Terminal means it goes at the end of your line.) This can be used with braided, monofilament, and fluorocarbon (or basically any type of fishing line.) Tied correctly, this knot is strong.

This knot will attach your hook/lure/swivel to your line.

ARBOR KNOT

This knot is very simple and is used when spooling a reel with fishing line; (it secures the fishing line to the arbor.) It’s just two overhand knots put together.

Use this knot if you bought a reel that needs line spooled onto it and/or you plan on re-spooling a reel with line. Though not shown in the video, this same knot can be used to spool a spincast reel.
