Hey there! I'm Koaw, a biologist with an immense passion for the creatures interacting in our world. (And fyi, Koaw rhymes with boa.)

Koaw.org, the Koaw Nature YouTube Channel, and the KN Fishing Smarts YouTube Channel are free resources that I've created to help spread knowledge of our natural world and encourage people to get outdoors. Koaw Nature reaches more than 30,000 viewers and readers every month.

Ever since I was a little boy, wandering the coniferous Rocky Mountains of Colorado, I've felt a strong connection with the other organisms of our planet. This connection, along with our current global situation, constantly reminds me of the importance of teaching people about our natural world as well as keeping people fascinated with all that is outdoors.

I believe the only way to achieve a healthy future for our world is to learn about our world. I’m also reminded that content must be entertaining and real. Starting in late 2026, we’re pushing more towards a casual approach of teaching about wildlife and going more experiential into my doings as a biologist and as a person.

Koaw Nature’s goal will always be learning and teaching as well as an attempt to offer some entertainment.

• Graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a baccalaureate in Evolutionary Biology & Ecology.

• Currently working on a PhD in the Biological Sciences Department at the University of Southern Illinois

• Participated in various government, private sector, & citizen scientist research/data collection projects.

• Active member of the American Fisheries Society (AFS).

• Active contributor of signatures and presence for matters of ecosystem protections, animal rights, science, wildlife protections & other social injustices.
