Planning a treasure hunt for you kids can be as easy as you want to make it. You can do it in your backyard or in your neighborhood or wherever! I took my nieces to our nearby woods.

This importance of this task goes beyond just having a great time outdoors. The idea is to teach the kids without them really knowing they are gaining valuable skills.

  1. Spatial learning - They will be mapping out their environment and realizing that it’s important to learn about features within a habitat.

  2. Critical thinking - The clues will have them really having to put two-and-two together.

  3. Teamwork - Working with a buddy is all that much better. When each participant contributes make sure they get positive feedback besides the treasure at the end.

And if the kids need help then don’t be afraid to give it. Just make sure you don’t give them too much help. They need to at least make some effort if a clue is particularly tough for them. You’ll know what’s best!

Good luck planning your treasure hunt!
