May 2020 - By Koaw

There is a section in the eastern woods of Reston, Virginia with a little flowing creek. Inside the creek are some pools with blacknose dace, bluegill and eastern mosquitofish. These are delicious fishes if you are a great blue heron.

This great blue heron (Ardea herodias) I often see fishing but it rarely lets me get close enough to take video. On this day I was stealthy enough (or just lucky enough) to follow this big blue beauty as it moved down the creek. All I wanted was one good shot of it catching a fish!

FYI - The video was published in September of 2019. I am redoing the website and adding so much content!
