I threw together these drawings because I was dissatisfied that the leading ichthyological texts were each missing a bit of information. I simply compounded the most pertinent information into a couple easy templates.
Below is an image displaying the common expressions for describing the tail fins of fishes.
A brief overview of common fish tail types with real fish-examples! Great for fisherpersons, divers, and fish admirers to learn and/or brush-up on identification skills. Fishes. Nature. Love. Chaos. That's the core essence of Koaw. Educating while entertaining! Thank you for watching!
The types of caudal fins described here will be protocercal, heterocercal, hemihomocercal, hypocercal, homocercal, leptocercal (diphycercal), isocercal, and gephyrocercal. (See image).
Every fisherperson SHOULD KNOW the basics of what is in this video. Can fishes see color? What is the lateral line? Do fishes have ears? - Can you answer these questions? This video helps fishers with their fishing game with a bit of basic science. (And yes, "fishes" is a legitimate word...seriously.)
Check out my YouTube video on how fishes detect fishing lures using vision, the lateral line system, & hearing. It's cool stuff!
